Licensure

Changes to some proposed rules and regulations to our practice, click here

Hello Sheila and All,

Here is the information on the changes that were made to chapter 7 and   are now up for public comment.  This notice of intent was sent to Cora   Ligori on October 3 by Debra Bridges, executive director board of dental   examiners.  This chapter reflects many, many hours of work by Janine   Sasse-Englert and Carol Owens.  It is in strike out format so the changes   made are very obvious.  The section regarding laser use is not exactly as   I would like to see it.  I was in favor of having a grandfather clause   for practitioners who are currently using lasers but I get the feeling that I   was the only board member who wanted this.  As was pointed out to me the   whole section could be removed and then there would be no expanded function   for laser use.  I truly  appreciate the work that Janine and Carol   put into these changes.

On another note, I was able to attend the American Association of Dental   Boards semi-annual meeting this month and really feel that I learned a   lot!  One thing that I came away with was that, in regards to dental   hygiene, our state is not in the dark ages!  Some states are still in the   process of passing expanded functions for anesthetics and many have hygienists   who sit on their state boards but either do not have voting rights or only   have rights to vote on issues pertaining to dental hygiene.

One area of discussion that I found very interesting was the area of   injecting Botox and other dermal fillers, a practice coming into the area of   dentistry in some states.

Unfortunately one other subject that much time was spent discussing is   the mis-use of narcotics by professionals and their staff members and the huge   amount of time and resources spent by boards in dealing with it.  I have   to admit that I was somewhat naive in this area.

Also I have begun the process of becoming an examiner for both WREB and   CRDTS, two testing services I have not thought about since I participated in   CRDTS as a examinee 26 years ago!

I have to say that serving on the board has so far been a huge learning   experience for me.  I have much respect for the others who have served in   the past and are currently serving.  Please feel free to contact me if   you have any questions or areas of concern!
